Wall Paintings ProjectThe Church

The church of St Mary the Virgin at Lakenheath is one of finest parish churches in Suffolk. As well as being of architectural interest the church can boast of an enviable wealth of surviving medieval features that are virtually unrivalled by any other church in the region. In addition to the fantastic and unique schemes of medieval wall paintings, St Maryís contains the finest 13th century font in Suffolk, medieval bells and floor tiles and a collection of carved bench ends that are widely regarded as the finest surviving collection anywhere in East Anglia. It is, quite simply, a hidden gem.
